I could use some advice on a client situation.

A client wants to rank nationally, but their website is pretty small and they’re competing against websites that have been around for years. Their budget isn’t huge either. I’m trying to decide whether it’s better to build authority slowly around a few very specific topics first, or create a lot more content and try to cover the whole niche. My concern with the second approach is ending up with 50+ articles that get almost no traffic. What would you guys do? Would you go narrow first and build topical authority, or publish aggressively and see what starts getting traction? Also interested in how you decide when a keyword is simply not worth chasing. I’d rather hear from people who have actually managed small sites than the usual “just create great content” advice. 😄
